Our area has seen many changes, and with those changes comes stories and anecdotes of our colourful past. One perfect example is the old "Millers" Hotel (where the current Novotel stands today). Originally built as a grand and stately "Victorian" style Hotel by the Hon Thomas Saywell prior to the turn of the century. Saywell had a grand plan for Brighton-Le-Sands as a premier pleasure grounds and beach side resort for Sydneysiders. The hotel has had such a checkered past... from its glory days as the "New Brighton" Hotel, till it lost its License and was leased by the Scotts College as a boys School and then it was taken over as a private Hotel until it was purchased by the Millers Group and became a local landmark. The Hotel was total transformed with Beer garden, drive through bottle shop and stage for bands to play. Millers Brighton Hotel also became a venue for every upcoming fledgling band to perform among with established bands such as The Monkeys, Hush, Johnny O'Keefe, The Squares, Midnight Oil, Diana Ross and many more.
